Brantley 10 Months

Our little B-man is growing up & trying to do big things. He loves his sister, always one step behind her, trying to get into anything she touches. Funny thing is, if Lola tries to put something up where he can’t reach it, he only wants it more. About a week ago, we caught him standing on his push car & climbing on top of Lola’s play oven, it was a WOW moment.

He HATES a diaper change, it is almost impossible to change his diaper unless you pin him down.

Weight - 22lbs

Head – HUGE (must mean he is super smart)

Teeth – 8 (6 whole, 2 chipped)

He is so much fun, always smiling & happy. He loves to laugh & is extremely ticklish.

About a month ago, Lola & I headed to Atlanta to attend a mother/daughter tea & fashion show at my parent’s church. My Mom was the main speaker and she did such an amazing job. God has given her a great talent for teaching & spreading His word.

Lola had a blast, she loved every minute of it. At the end of the program they had a hat promenade on the runway. Lola went up on stage & walked the runway & stayed up there with Nana while she did the closing remarks.

For a week she talked about being up on the big stage with Nana holding her, it was so cute. She cried when we left, she had too much fun.

So happy MawMaw Butler was able to go and be with us.

Brantley 9 Months

9 Months was an adventure, so many changes. Brantley not only began crawling fast, but he also started pulling up, climbing, standing on his own, etc. Today he climbed out of his walker & landed on the bathroom tile on his head. I can’t keep him in anything unless he is strapped down.

He only eats table food, he is so much happier too. He loves a turkey & cheese sandwich, he wants to take bites off instead of me tearing it up in tiny pieces. He shared oreos & milk with his Daddy last week, it was a hit.

He has 8 teeth, weighs 21 lbs (55%), 30.5 “ long (95%), head 19” (97%).

He loves being outside in his car or in the swing. He is generally a HAPPY boy & I love him so much!

The Fair

We took the kids to the Fair a few weeks ago and it was a huge hit. Lola begged to go every night for a week following our visit. She talked about going in detail, making a schedule of everything we would do (of course it was the exact order we did things in when we went). She has such a good memory!

We started out riding a few rides, then went indoors to see a clown show (it was really hot outside).

Lola immediately loved the show & ask to go on stage. At first she just went up there & danced around, finally the clown noticed her & included her in a trick.

Next we headed to Little One's Farming, where Brantley got in on the action!

B-Man, we love our B-Man! Brantley's had an eventful month; 1st black eye, 1st carousal ride, several almost crawling injury's... tooth count = 7

He loves to eat table food (especially ice cream), give high fives, baths with his sis, being tickled, the dishwasher, opening drawers & cabinets, plus everything Lola! I think we might have our hands full with this lil man.

He is so close to crawling. He will make a couple movements, but not confident enough to crawl across the room.

At dinner when Lola leads us in prayer, he has started to clasp his hands together like we do, melt my heart. He is so active & strong & into everything. He has an enormous smile & dimples to match, so cute!

Feeling very blessed to be a Mommy of 2 adorable children!

A few weeks ago, the kids & I made a trip to Atlanta. I just love this photo, swingin' at Nana & Pop's.

It was great to visit with family & do a few first.

We took Lola & Brantley to their first movie (Winnie the Pooh, so cute).

We also made our first visit to Babyland General. Lola loved all of it!

She loved all the dolls, delivery area, kitchen & salon.

Happy boy at the farm! We were in town for the 4th of July so we headed to the farm with Andrew's family. We all had a wonderful time, especially Lola. She came home talking about all the hard work she did, it was too cute. She loves everything about farm life...she must get this from her Daddy!

My lil 'wild man'

His hair infatuation continues on, he loves to pull hair. I thought about making Lola's Rapunzel doll his girlfriend, but Andrew was not on board.

He can scoot backwards & get up on all 4's and rock. I have a feeling he will be crawling soon. He has 5 teeth & can clap his hands.

He loves roaming around the house in his walker & swinging in the backyard. He is starting to let me rock him for long periods at bedtime (I love this cuddle time)!

Brantley's 1st Beach Trip

Well, we made the best of it, that about sums up our entire trip! First 2 teeth, 6 mth shots, fevers, cough, runny noses, sleepless nights....need I go on. The weather was perfect & the beach was amazing, so at least we had something going for us!

This was Brantley's first time at the beach & he was a little unsure at first. He warmed up quickly though, loving the baby pool we set up by the ocean. Lola loved having him in the pool with her & pretended to give him a 'bath' all day.

Lola had her last day of 2 yr MDO a few weeks ago. The year went by so fast & she grew up so much.

She had a great year with her teacher Mrs. Meredith and made so many little friends.

She made best friends with a little girl named Anna, they are so cute together. Here they are being silly!

Brantley 6 Months

I can't believe Brantley is 6 months! He is such a sweet baby boy who loves to cuddle. He is very active, always moving.

He is starting to sit up & can say Dada. He has 2 teeth, bottom middle. He still loves to be swaddled at nap & night. Stats below:

Graduation

Andrew graduated from Tennessee Tech University's MBA program a few weeks ago. We are so proud of him. He has worked so hard to get his MBA degree, while working full time.

We had planned to go to Andrew's graduation ceremony, then head on a mini vaca to Gatlinburg for a long weekend. Well, we missed the whole shebang! We were at the doctor with Lola that morning, another double ear infection & an extremely high fever. We decided to stay close to home since she was so sick.

I did make him put on the cap & gown for a few photos in front of our house. Notice poor Lola in all the photos, you can tell she doesn't feel good.

A few weekend's ago, Uncle JC treated us to Brantley's first Brave's game. And when I say treated, boy did he go all out. Tickets, valet parking, air-conditioned window seated lunch, ice cream, etc., etc. Thanks JC for everything, we had a wonderful time. It was a PERFECT spring day to be at a ball game, the weather was amazing. We showed up to the field an hour or so early to catch JC in action at the pre-game show, so I thought we might make it until the 4th inning, 5th inning tops. The kids were so good, we made it until the 9th inning!

Easter 2011

Brantley 5 months

He is our 'wild man' as we like to say. He is so active, always moving (even in his sleep) & watching that silly sister of his.

I think he weighs around 18 lbs & is almost as long as Lola.

Loves chewing on his toes, watching balloons, being outside (when his allergies permit), and being anywhere in his exersaucer.

Lola had a little party at school & she was given Dora lip gloss as a party favor. She LOVED it! By the time we got home, she had it all over her cheeks, lips, chin, etc. We finally had to take it away, but she had fun while it lasted!

Love them, they love each other so much, we are having fun!

We gave Brantley his first baby food veggie last week, SQUASH! He loved it! I had the camera ready, waiting for a funny face, but he was all smiles. I think he would have eaten the whole jar. We are off to a good start with veggies. Hoping he is a good eater like Lola!

One thing for sure... Brantley is not crazy about rice cereal! He loves to spit it out and smear it all over his face, what a mess!

We have been playing lots of dress up, she loves getting all dolled up & twirling around, precious!

Roll Over

Brantley started rolling over about a month ago. I was in the kitchen early one morning making coffee, L&B were in the living room watching cartoons. Lola came in the kitchen and told me 'Brantley just rolled over'. I was like 'okay, right'. Well, I went in the living room & there he was, on his belly with a big grin. So, Lola was the only one that saw it!

Christmas Snow

Something strange happened in Atlanta on Christmas Day...SNOW. I think my grandfather said it has not snowed in Atlanta on Christmas Day since the 1880's.

That night we went out sledding & had a great time.

The next day Lola & Andrew made a snow man.

Christmas Day

Santa came! When Lola woke up Christmas morning we asked her if she thought Santa came, and she said "no, he is at church". I think she believes Santa lives at church since we went and sat in his lap at breakfast with Santa. It was cute, but Santa did come.

She was so excited about all her toys, but the first thing she noticed was her Tinker Bell pajamas. She slowly took it all in & soon began playing with everything.

The immediate hit was a little fishing puzzle, she played with it all morning.

I had to get Brantley out of bed & he slept through everything.

Brantley was so cute Christmas Day, I dressed him up in his new sweater & khakis, he looked like such a big boy.

Christmas Eve

One thing Lola loved about the Holidays was all the sweets. She still ask for dessert after every meal!

On Christmas Eve, Lola & Nana made a Christmas Tree cake... one piece of candy for the cake, one for Lola.

That night we made cookies for Santa with icing & sprinkles. She was so excited & stole a few of Santa's cookies for herself!

A few nights before Christmas we went over to my cousin Brian's house for dinner. He has 2 little boys, Beau 3 & Luke 8 months. Lola had a great time with the boys & playing with all Beau's toys, she is still talking about Beau's trains. The kids were great and we all had a wonderful time visiting.

My grandparents were there & got to meet Brantley for the first time. We were able to get some great photos of them with their great-grandchildren!

Christmas with Andrew's Family

This year we were in Atlanta for Christmas, so we had Christmas with Andrew's family a few days early. Grams cooked a wonderful dinner for us. I am now realizing I did not take enough photos that night, I must have been scattered. Anyway, we had a wonderful evening celebrating & exchanging gifts.

Snow, Gingerbread House, & Snuggling

A few weeks before Christmas we got our first snow. One day I bundled Lola up and took her to the mail box with me. She was a little unsure at first, but quickly decided she liked it. She immediately started asking for a carrot. It took me a while to figure it out, but she was telling me she wanted to build a snowman!

The weekend before Christmas Lola & I built a Gingerbread House. Lola was so excited all morning & could not wait to start. I had bought a kit at Publix that had everything we needed. Upon opening, I realized it might have a little bit more than we needed, there was TONS of candy. Lola eyes immediately lit up like a Christmas Tree! The set came with a little tray you could separate the candy into, just right for Lola's little fingers. She would grab a handful of candy & say 'one for Ginger, one for me'.

She was so cute the entire morning, maybe it was all the sugar.

I am not sure where to begin, I am so behind! I knew things would be different with the 2nd, but I thought I would at least have time to post photos. Man was I wrong! O Christmas Tree

One of my favorite things about Christmas is the tree. Growing up we always had a real tree, & I can't ever imagine doing anything different. We ventured out to Home Depot as a family of 4 a few weekends ago & bought the first tree we touched.

It really is a perfect tree, might be the best one we have picked yet!

Lola was a lil more into decorating this year. She actually hung a few ornaments at first, then she would pick up an ornament & delegate the hanging to Andrew. She loved the silver beads we hung on the tree (she called them the trees necklace).

Brantley slept through the whole thing, which was probably best.

This year I also bought Lola a purple tree for her room. She loves it. Anytime someone comes over she immediately drags them back to her room to show them her tree.

Breakfast with Santa

This past Saturday we had Breakfast with Santa at church. We left Brantley at home with Grams while Andrew & I took Lola. She was a little shy a first, but I was really proud that she never shed a tear. They took 2 photos, one of which is decent (even though Santa is not looking at the camera)! Next year she will have to show her bro how it is done! Merry Christmas!

Brantley has arrived. He was born on Monday, November 15^th at 11:32 am. He weighed in at a whopping 8 lbs 11 oz & 20 inches long. We were shocked at how big he was. No wonder Mommy has been miserable for the last month!

Andrew had a little bit of a rough time during the delivery. They had to call an extra ‘backup’ nurse in the room to take care of Dad. Another nurse grabbed our camera and started taking photos after the delivery. Above is Andrew laid out on the sofa with smelling salt. (I am so glad the nurse snapped this photo)!

Lola paid Brantley about 10 seconds attention & that was it. She was more interested in how my hospital bed worked & the neat telephone in the room.

I thought I would do one last Lola update before Brantley’s arrival. We took her to see Mickey's Rockin' Roadshow last weekend at Municipal. We had a great time and she loved the show. We were suckered into a $20 souvenir (Mickey flashlight) & a $10 snow cone, but it was well worth it.

Lola loved the show and sat still in Andrew's lap and watched the whole thing. She has talked about seeing Mickey all week. The night we got home from the show, I was getting her ready for bed & she just suddenly stopped, gave me a hug & a kiss, & said 'Mommy, thank you for Mickey'. She did that all by herself. About 5 minutes later, she went into the kitchen & did the same thing to Andrew. It was possibly the sweetest thing ever!

Halloween!

We had a great Halloween, the weather was amazing the entire weekend.

On Friday, we met Andrew at the Dragon park for lunch and Lola had a great time.

On Saturday we spent a little time outdoors and carved our pumpkin.

Lola loved helping Andrew & was thrilled with the final product.

On Sunday, we had planned to go to Trunk or Treat at our church. Well, Lola had a different plan! All afternoon she told us she was not going to church, not going trick or treating, & defiantly not wearing her kangaroo costume. In the end, she did all three and loved it! She had a great time and looked adorable in her costume. She was so excited last night, it took us forever to get her to bed.

I also included a photo of Lola with a Halloween lantern my cousin Kim gave her. It is so cute and she just loved it. The funny thing is, she calls it 'baby Moses'. It started the day Kim gave it to her and she has continued. Every time she plays with it she talks about baby Moses in his basket, it's hilarious!

We spent a good bit of time this weekend getting ready for Brantley. Lola was all about it and very interested in all the 'stuff'. We watched Charlie Brown ‘The Great Pumpkin” last week and since then she has been all about her Snoopy doll. So, we practiced putting Snoopy in all of Brantley’s things, it was really cute. To say the least, I think I am going to have more help than I can handle!

We are making progress on Brantley’s room & everything is looking so cute. Andrew’s Aunt Amy made all the bedding and the drapes for us & she did such a great job, thank you Amy!

We headed to Gentry’s Farm last weekend with the rest of metro Nashville! The weather was great and it was a perfect day to be outdoors.

Andrew's 30th birthday was last weekend. I have no photos of the celebration, so this will have to do. Happy 30th!

Pop & Nana were also in town for the weekend, Lola loved having them in town for a few days!

Well, I can’t believe September is almost over! Time is flying by as we are trying to ready for Brantley’s arrival. Lola has been doing great in school, she loves her teacher and is always talking about her friend Anna at school, and it’s really cute. She comes home singing songs that she learned at school, she loves music.

We are excited that football has started, but where is that fall weather? We went to a friend’s house to watch the first Alabama game and Lola found an Alabama helmet, making her Daddy proud.

A few friends threw me a shower for Brantley last weekend. We had a wonderful time at our ‘girls night out’. Thanks again to Lori & Elizabeth for getting it together. Lori is pregnant and due with a lil baby boy in Feb!

A few of my friends had gifts for Lola. She woke up Saturday morning, very excited about all the presents. She asked if it was her birthday!

First Day of School!

Today was Lola’s first day of school, I can’t believe it is finally here. I feel like I signed her up ages ago. She did so good, way better than I expected. She walked right into class, talking nonstop about her backpack. Then, in true 'Lola' fashion, she immediately began asking for cookies (she remembered getting cookies in class at open house). She seemed excited, so I skipped the hug & kiss and made my exit. When I got to school this afternoon for pick up, she was doing great! Her teacher said she had a few tears when she realized I had left her, but did really good for most of the day. She even took an hour nap on her nap mat! Andrew & I both have questioned her about her day and all she wants to talk about is digging with a shovel & she mentioned something about a dump truck to Andrew.

On Saturday, Lola went bowling for the first time at her cousin Abby’s birthday. She had never been bowling or to a bowling alley & she was very interested from the moment we walked in. All the other kids were getting bowling shoes, so Lola wanted to do the same. I was shocked they had a size small enough to fit her. Andrew helped her with her first roll, & will you believe that she rolled a strike! No lie, a strike! It was so funny, we all got a big kick out of it. The party was a huge success and I see another bowling trip sometime soon in our future.

News!

The first exciting news is….that we have finally decided on a baby name! It has taken forever for Andrew & I (more Andrew) to make a 100% decision, but the wait is over. We decided on David Brantley Buffington. David is after both of our fathers and Andrew (David is Andrew’s first name). We will call him by his middle name Brantley! I just love it and can’t wait for Brantley to get here. I have started to feel a little panic because we have done nothing to get ready for his arrival. I know I have a few months, but it’s at least time to pick out the fabric for the bedding.

On to the other news, we bought a van. Yes, you read it right, I now drive a minivan. I am that person who, up until last year, swore I would NEVER drive a minivan. I mean NEVER! Andrew used to kid me that he was going to buy me one and it would put me in fits. I do not know what it was, but I was just not 'that' kind of Mom (no offense to you minivan Moms). Well, times have changed. I started warming up to the idea when I was with friends who drove minivans and I would see how easy they loaded their kids, not to mention the doors opened with the push of a button. I finally caved, knowing that it would be best for my family. So, we drove to Atlanta last weekend and bought one. My brother hooked us up with the manager of a dealership & we were able to get a great deal, thanks JC. And let me tell you, I have not had this van for a full week and I love it, my back loves it, Lola loves it, etc.

The Fair

This past weekend we headed to the Williamson County Fair. It was a hot day, but we had a great time. Lola loved the ‘Little Ones Farming’ again this year. She was amazed by the chickens, brushed the sheep, milked a cow, did a little farming, and had a blast.

July Beach Vacation

In July we headed to the beach with the Chadwick clan! It was wonderful, the weather was great & the ocean was oil free. Lola had so much fun, we could not keep her out of the ocean. She did great at the pool with her swimmies, she wanted to swim all by herself. We had wonderful seafood and desserts; I think we had dessert every night (the scale showed it at my last doctor’s appt)! It was such a relaxing trip and a nice break from everyday.

4th of July Weekend

We had a fantastic weekend over the 4th holiday. We started out Saturday morning at the zoo. They had a special Red, White, & Zoo event. Lola loved it as always, she has been missing the zoo. The weather has been so hot & Mommy has not felt up to taking her the past few months. I think her favorite was petting Eve the snake & the goats, she just loves to interact with animals.

On Sunday we headed to downtown Franklin for their 4th celebration. We met a few friends that have a 3 year old little boy named Samuel. We had a blast and there were so many things for kids to do; pony rides, bounce houses, live music & a petting zoo.

On Monday we went out to the farm for a family picnic. Lola rode the 4 wheeler for the first time and the big tractor with Gramps, though I think her favorite is still throwing rocks in the creek!

Thanks to all of our family, Lola had a wonderful 2nd birthday party, we are so blessed! Despite a few power outages and lots of rain, things went great. My favorite part was when everyone sang the ‘Happy Birthday Song’. She just sat there with wide eyes and smiled. We have been singing the ‘Happy Birthday Song’ all week.

Kangaroo

So about a week ago Lola was lucky enough to meet a baby kangaroo! The Director of the Nashville Zoo’s wife agreed to bring the kangaroo into Brentwood Interiors for all the employees’ children to see. Lola loved it and was by far the loudest child there. The poor kangaroo was chased all over the store, but so cute!

Lola help Gramps hold the kangaroo in its pouch; she was so excited to touch it. It was an adorable kangaroo and it was so good with all the children.

Atl Visit

Last week Lola and I headed to Atlanta for a long weekend. We had so much fun and it was great to visit with friends & family. Lola & Beau had a great time playing in the bounce house and dancing up a storm. They we really funny together.

On Saturday we met my Cousin Brian’s 2nd little boy, Luke, for the first time. He is just adorable and such a good baby. They made having 2 look easy!

Lola wasn’t so sure about Nana holding baby Luke, so she tried to get in Nana’s lap and put her head on the burp cloth too. I see some trouble in our near future….

On Sunday it was so hot so we decided to get the slip n’ slide out in the backyard. Lola didn’t really get the run and slide concept, but she sure did have fun!

Labor Day at the BEACH!

Over Labor Day we headed to the beach with Grams & Gramps for some fun in the sun. The weather was great and the ocean was clear! We had a wonderful relaxing weekend and enjoyed sleeping in for a few days (thanks to grandparents).

Ride That Pony

A few weekends ago we went to the Bellevue picnic with my cousin & her family. It was really neat with lots of free things for kids. Here is Lola riding a pony all by herself, she loved it and kept wanting to go back!

A few weeks ago on a rainy Monday we were stuck in the house looking for something to do. I have started trying more crafts with Lola now that she is older, so we decided to try a macaroni necklace. She loved coloring the noodles (and her fingers). She wore the necklace for 2 days straight and loved it. I finally had to take it away because she was starting to try and eat the necklace!

On my birthday (BIG 30 this year) I wasn’t feeling too well, so we just decided to order pizza and stay in. We were out in the front yard talking with neighbors and decided to turn the sprinklers on to water the grass and flowers (this was pre-flood). As soon as Lola noticed the water, she was off! Lola, Andrew, Uncle Nate & Mable had a blast running through the sprinklers, she loves water.

I was cooking one afternoon and knew Lola was in the kitchen with me, but I was not paying complete attention. A few seconds later, I turn around and she had removed my cornmeal from the cabinet a scattered it all over the kitchen floor!

Gardening

I have tons of catching up to do...so here goes! Here a few photos from the first of April. Lola helped Uncle Nate & Aunt Kristen plant their garden one Saturday morning. She loved digging around in the dirt and playing with the water hose. They even bought Lola her very own Elmo gardening kit. Let's hope everything Lola 'helped' plant turns out okay!

We decided to join a CSA (Community Sponsored Agriculture) this spring and I am so excited about it. We are part of Eco-Gardens in KY. It is a certified organic farm that grows a wide range of fruits and vegetables. We basically pay a fee at the beginning and get fresh fruits & veggies for 28 weeks. Plus, they drop off in Crieve Hall, so it is super convenient. The first few weeks have been great, my favorites have been strawberries (amazing), different varieties of lettuce/spinach & the broccoli. I have so much food I am having trouble storing it.

Baby News!

Sorry I am so behind on blog updates, but at least I have a good reason……we are expecting baby #2 in November! We are so excited; I am just ready for the first trimester to be behind me. We told Lola on Sunday, but she was more interested in her toys. Later that night she did pat my belly a few times, but she really has no idea.
We have had so many other changes going on around the house. A few weeks ago, we took her pacifier away, which was no big deal. But, as a direct result, she started climbing out of her crib. The first few nights were okay, but by night 5 she climbed out about 20 times. The next day we went and picked up toddler rails to make her crib a toddler bed. She is doing really well, expect for one thing. She has woken up at 3 am every night for the past 10 days. She will go back to sleep in about 10 -20 minutes, but it is still hard. I have been spoiled for so long with a good sleeper. Maybe it is just God’s way of getting me ready for #2!

Last Saturday we headed to the farm. On the way out, we picked up a few sandwiches & had a great picnic, the weather was so nice. Lola loved the cows, horses, & tractors as always. A few weeks ago we headed to the beach for a little break. Between the house addition, Andrew’s new job and being sick, we needed a break! The weather was really cool, but the sun was shining and that was way better than Nashville weather at the time.

We were able to make it down to the beach 3 out of the 4 afternoons. Lola loved the beach as always, she literally ran right into the ocean with her shoes on.

She chased the seagulls and tweeted at them the whole time. She cried everyday when we left the beach. Needless to say, I am looking forward to the beach this summer!

One day we spent the morning at the Gulf Zoo. It was defiantly different from our Nashville Zoo, but really neat. Lola had no fear and fed the deer several times, it was amazing.

We enjoyed the weather this weekend, the sun felt so good. On Saturday we headed to the zoo, it was so much fun. All the animals were out and up close, I think they have missed the sunshine too!

Here are a few photos from our snow weekend. We had around 6 inches in our yard, which is a good snow in Nashville terms. Lola had been sick so we were not sure about getting her out, but we finally gave in. She might be 6 or 7 before it snows again like this in Nashville and we had already been cooped up in the house for over a week. . She did a little sledding with her Daddy on the road, not much of a hill, but it worked just fine. On Sunday we let her in the back yard with Jack. Andrew, with a little help from Lola, built a big snowman. She liked it, but was very annoyed with her mittens. Next year we will have to get gloves with finger slots!

A few weeks ago we had some friends over to watch the National Championship. Andrew is a huge Alabama fan, Roll Tide. Here are a few photos from the night. Well, we finally did get some snow last weekend! We took Lola out for a few minutes on both Friday & Saturday. She loved the snow & sledding, hated all the layered clothing, hat & gloves.
